Their main reason for buying Servel was to get the refrigerator icemaker, which makes half moon cubes and is still the best refrigerator icemaker on the market today, as a number of appliance companys use or copy it. Servel was bought out about 1946 by the former 2000 Washer Company which had changed it's name to Whirlpool and is still in business today making appliances. It is thought that these engines were all exported. Servel did apparently build some engines from spare parts about 1935. They were bought out by Servel and switched over to making refrigeration components.
Hercules Buggy Company built engines of the single cylinder open flywheel hit and miss style under the Hercules Engine Company name til the mid 1930's. In previous post about history of Hercules, there is some confusion of two different engine companies. the oil pan gasket can probably be re-used with a little help from some silicon sealer but the old Head gasket is beyond salvation. I can probably "piece together" a set of piston rings but desperately need new rod bearings (the originals were severely scorched when the previous owner decided to start the engine with diesel fuel in the crankcase to "clean 'er out", surprisingly the old main bearings and crankshaft are still "good as new"). Then at the onset of the Second World War the engine design was "revived" with slight updates and produced for military use (mostly on Light Plants/Generators) by the "New" Hercules Motor Co.
1946 TROJAN LOADER PARTS DIAGRAM SERIES
As best as I can determine, the WXC series Herc's were produced by the original Hercules Motor Co. Thank's to you too Alan, however, I work for NAPA Auto Parts and everything for this paticular Hercules Engine (WXC3) is obsolete with NAPA & our parts supliers.
Thank's Franz, no help at the "kanter" site.
